Scents and Sensitivity – A Conversation with Miss Layla of fūm fragrances

Miss Layla is an interdisciplinary artist and self-taught perfumer based in L.A. Her interest in fragrance and olfactive endeavors began as a small child when she learned how to cook and “taste shapes”. Later in life, Layla came to know that she had synesthesia, which she harnesses to her advantage when formulating perfume. After contracting COVID-19, she developed chemical sensitivities linked to auto immune conditions and chronic inflammation. Her purpose and sense of identity is distorted and she struggles to relate to the world she once knew.
